Food Allergy vs Food Intolerance

Sounds similar, but they are different!

Similar symptoms, but their response to the food is different!

One is life-threatening, and the other is manageable!

It's the battle of food and system!

Two systems, two different responses.

Food Allergy is the immune system's response to certain foods, such as eggs, nuts, fish, wheat, and milk, which can cause life-threatening problems like anaphylaxis. The body mistakes the protein in the food for harmful invaders, which makes it release antibodies called immunoglobulins to combat this perceived threat. The antibodies reach the cells to release histamine that acts as a defense mechanism, causing inflammation, breathing issues, itching, etc.

In high allergy cases, the excess of histamine in the body causes vasodilation, which leads to low blood pressure, rapid heart rate, breathing problems, and skin rashes.

Food Intolerance is basically related to the digestive system. It could be due to the absence of enzymes to digest the food, and the symptoms include stomach cramping, bloating, constipation, etc. It could be due to enzyme deficiencies or sensitivity towards food additives. Food allergy can cause life-threatening issues, whereas food intolerance can be non-life-threatening.
